Brief description:
Book Club for ages 8-11 focusing on comics available through Hoopla.
How-to for this program:
Virtual Graphic Novel Book Club, designed for ages 8-11 with a maximum of 15 kids (actual weekly attendance was about 5-8). Over the summer, we met weekly for an hour; in the school year, we meet monthly for an hour.
We used GoToMeeting for our online meetings, though Zoom or another virtual meeting space would also work.
All book titles were available on Hoopla, for easy, immediate access for all participants. Books included:
- Lumberjanes Vol. 1 by Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, Noelle Stevenson
- My Video Game Ate My Homework by Dustin Hansen
- Phoebe and Her Unicorn by Dana Simpson
- New Kid by Jerry Craft
- Nathan Hale’s Hazardous Tales: One Dead Spy by Nathan Hale
- Diana: Princess Of The Amazons by Shannon and Dean Hale
- El Deafo by Cece Bell
- Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan (too old for my attendees)
