Facebook Live Program - Community Interviews

Brief description:
Monthly Facebook Live Program introducing a Lorain County Neighbor with interesting skills or knowledge to share.

How-to for this program:

On the third Wednesday of the Month, the Lorain Public Library System conducts an interview of a Lorain County community member via Zoom which is then live broadcast to Face Book.

This is a great way to stay connected with the public and a chance for people to share with each other while in person opportunities are not available. This is very informal - neighbors meeting neighbors.

The interviewee and interviewer must both have a laptop or other device with camera and microphone and the Interview must have a Zoom Pro Account and have it set to allow broadcast to Facebook. This was the best way we could find to allow us to do a dual screen of the Interviewer and Interviewee.

Steps:

  • Recruit interviewees: Local Author, Expert on Birding, Therapy Dog Owner, Mixologist,  Museum Owner/Historian.
  • Ask Interviewee to provide a brief bio and 4 or 5 questions you could ask during the interview - about them or their talent or expertise.
  • Set up a practice Zoom session for the week before the event to check internet connection, audio and video quality and answer any questions.
  • Send the Zoom invite for the actual event and ask the interviewee to confirm receipt - make this 10 minutes prior to the actual start of the event.
  • When in Zoom, set to gallery view and have both videos and audio on for Interviewer and interviewee. Choose Send to Face Book Live, fill in a title and description, choose which Face book page you want to send it to and go live. There will be a delay in broadcasting but begin anyway. Face Book will catch up.
  • Introduce and interview guest for about 5-10 minutes
  • Mute self and switch to Speaker View and  Interviewee will do a 15 -20 presentation or demo.
  • During their presentation, check Face Book comments for questions.
  • Switch back to gallery view and unmute and turn on video then ask the audience questions supplemented with questions they provided ahead of time.
  • Wrap up with thank you, sharing books and other library materials to related to the topic and library website information. Share website of interviewee if applicable and invite viewers back next month.
  • The whole thing may take 30-45 minutes - or a little longer if tons of questions.
