How do you get book reviews these days? Certainly you are still using tried and true trade publications, but do you also check “common man” reviews from the likes of Shelfari, Amazon, and LibraryThing?
Here are some more professional and public online review sources that may be helpful.
- Allreaders.com features detailed book reviews from many different genres of books, done by readers, not necessarily librarians. You can also enter book reviews of your own.
- EarlyWord.com works with all of the publishers to get you new reviews in a timely manner. There is also a searchable index of previous reviews.
- Library Journal has a few online sources for book/AV reviews. Many of the online reviews aren’t listed in the print version (Examples: RA Crossroads, The Readers Shelf, BookSmack! and Book for Dudes)
- ShelfAwareness has publisher news, reviews, and talks about what’s going on in the profit and non-profit world of books.
