OPLIN 4Cast #157: Barcodes

We found this image on a package delivered to the OPLIN office yesterday.  We looked around online and found that this MaxiCode is used by the carrier to track the package in real time.

There are barcodes everywhere, and not just on items for sale.  They are now in shop windows, at bus stops and integrated into printed ads.  People are using them to comparison shop, get store info, seek product information and to get maps.

Cool fact form the 4Cast:
From the Barcode Software Center:  “Created by United Parcel Service, the MaxiCode symbol was designed for quick automated scanning of packages on high-speed conveyor lines (special cameras can read a MaxiCode on a carton travelling at up to 500 feet per minute).”
